A small town by the south coast of Northumberland with an excellent beach, Newbiggin by the Sea was once a port for shipping out grains. Today, the town is still engaged in small fishing businesses that still utilize the use of traditional coble boats.

Newbiggin by the Sea now has a revamped beach that has underwent a major redevelopment back in 2007 due to erosion that happened over the years.

In recent years, the town has been developed to become one of the most sought tourist attractions in the Northumberland Coast; notable structure created in this particular area was a sculpture known as, The Couple, that stands 12.5 metres high. It was created by Sean Henry and is located in the newly developed breakwater near the Newbiggin’s Sands. The project of restoring the beach and creating new structures aim to restore the glorious days of the town, in order to attract more visitors, tourists, and locals alike.

Newbiggin by the Sea has a lot in store for travellers such as the Newbiggin Maritime Centre, where you can learn more about the town’s history, culture, and heritage with its very own museum featuring the ‘Girl Anne’ fishing coble, community gallery, and Newbiggin’s last all weather lifeboat.
